NSHRF FUNDS MEDICAL RESEARCH
AT LIONS GATE HOSPITAL

North Shore Health Research Foundation presents $10,000 cheque to Dr. Gary Andolfatto at Lions Gate Hospital to further his study of PRocedural Sedation and Analgesia

North Vancouver - The North Shore Health Research Foundation (NSHRF) presented research grants to three Lions Gate Hospital Doctors, for medical research projects on the North Shore.

Dr. Gary Andolfatto, of the Lions Gate Hospital Emergency Department Research Program, received $10,000 to further his study of Procedural Sedation and Analgesia. The North Shore Health Research Foundation has previously awarded $35,000 to Dr. Andolfatto for emergency room research conducted at Lions Gate Hospital. Dr. Andolfatto's research findings have been presented at Harvard's Children's Hospital in Boston, Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Vancouver General Hospital and St. Pauls Hospital. His research findings have been quoted at conferences throughout North America and prestigious international meetings.

Dr. Richard Lewis received a $5,400 grant to compare results of Laparoscopic versus Open Colon Surgery at Lions Gate Hospital. The results of this study will be used to confirm the advantages of supporting laparoscopic colon surgery at LGH and within the Vancouver Coastal Health region.

Dr. Paul Sugar received a grant for $4,721.50 for the study of the prevalence of hypogonadism in male palliative patients at Home and Community Care facilities in North and West Vancouver. The study will determine the potential for Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) in a clinical setting.

Dr. Robert Fingland, President of the NSHRF said, "These research projects will greatly benefit the health of all North Shore residents. Research is vital for advancing our knowledge to improve medical procedures. We are pleased to provide much needed support for these projects."

North Shore Health Research Foundation (NSHRF), formerly Lions Gate Healthcare Research Foundation, was founded in 1963 by a dedicated group of Doctors and residents of the North Shore. Their dream and mandate was to establish a Foundation that would help fund much needed research in healthcare to benefit residents of the North Shore.
